NOVEMBER 9, 2013 – LOVE FIRST SPOKEN – Do you realize how casually most of us throw around the word ‘Love’? My husband loves me. He loves his 1965 Comet Caliente. He loves those old fifties songs. I love my husband. I love running. I love my cup of coffee early in the morning. ‘The Rule of First Mention’ is when we see a word for the very first time in scripture. Check out the verse for when the word ‘LOVE’ is first spoken: Genesis 22:1-2 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you ‘LOVE’, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering” (NKJ) Abraham loved Isaac, and yet God tested him by asking him to offer up Isaac as a burnt offering. This type of love, where it is first spoken in scripture, is what love is really all about. Love flows through our blood; our entire being. If the Lord tested you in this manner, would you obey? Abraham obeyed, and in the end, God provided the sacrifice (v.13). We must obey the Lord – LOVE flowed through His blood as it dripped down the Cross!
